Fun Fact Friday, 3rd October 2025

Fun Fact Friday this week – all about UK storms and weather.

1. Since 2015, the UK Met Office and Met Éireann name storms to make them easier to follow. The one hitting Scotland later this evening is ‘Amy’

2. The Great Storm of 1703 was so wild, it sank entire fleets AND toppled the Eddystone lighthouse. Incredible.

3. Scotland holds the record for the most powerful gust – a whopping 173 mph atop the Cairngorm Summit in 1986! See, Scotland wins at some things…just not football

4. Scotland often sees the wildest winds, thanks to the Atlantic jet stream. It acts as a sort of storm conveyor belt, driving storms straight here from North America

5. Victorian London’s name was ‘Foggy London Town’, however most of the time this was actually smog driven to the city by the wind – yuk.

Do you need help to see through the financial fog shrouding your business?

Would you rather climb the Cairngorms, than tackle your books?

You’re in luck!

We love nothing better than blowing away the cobwebs and getting stuck in, to breathe new life into your business; without all the drama and bluster.

We offer a free, 15 minute online discovery appointment. It couldn’t be easier to get the help you need.

Organise this appointment by emailing info@caas.org.uk or by filling out the contact form on our website www.caas.org.uk

We can’t wait to help you weather the storm.

Happy Friday, we’re all out of puns!

Ask the Accountant!

Q. “I’m self-employed in the UK and completing my tax return. Can you tell me an expense most forget they can claim?”

A. “One of the most commonly forgotten or even unknown expenses you can claim, is using your home for work.

If you work from home — even just for a few hours a week — you can claim a portion of your household costs. These can include the cost of heating, electricity, internet, and council tax.

You can use HMRCs simplified flat rate or your accountant can calculate a ‘fair use percentage’ of the actual costs.

Over the course of the year the costs can add up to a worthwhile saving on your tax bill.”

Looking to complete your ta return early? We’d be delighted to help!

We offer a 15 minute discovery call with our accountant, simply email info@caas.org.uk to arrange.

Ask the Accountant!

Q. “I’m self-employed in the UK and need to do a self assessment tax return, what’s the one expense most people forget they can claim back on tax?”

A. One of the most commonly forgotten expenses a self employed person can claim back is if you use your home for work.

If you work from home — even for just a few hours per week — you can claim a proportion of your household costs. These include heating, electricity, internet, and council tax.

HMRC sets out a simplified flat rate or you, or your accountant, can work out a fair percentage of actual costs – it can add up to a worthwhile saving on your tax bill, so definitely worth doing.

Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For…

We’re nearing the halfway point of 2025, which is a good time to reflect on what you want your business to achieve by the end of the year. Especially if you haven;t given it much thought until now.

Have you still to find an accountant that can help you with your goals? You’re in luck! We still have a small number of spaces available before we close our books.Clients who have been with us for a while will know that when we reach capacity, we do not take on new clients and this hiatus can sometimes last a few years.

The reason? We want to provide the best customer service to our current clients and if we saturate our workload then we thin out our resources and capacity to perform at our best. We’re a small firm, so we’re not interested in continually ‘filling our bucket’. We want to create long-lasting business relationships, because that way we achieve more, together.

So, what are you waiting for? July the 2nd, the official halfway point of this year, is not far away. Get in touch today – we’ll help you set your course and stop you drifting at sea (or Loch, in the case of the accompanying photo).

All inquiries gratefully received via info@caas.org.uk

Grow Your Business in 2025!

We’re still accepting new clients, however we would urge you to be quick as these spaces normally fill fast. Once we reach capacity, we close our books until more space becomes available.

Are we a good fit for you?

Ideally we’re looking for small to medium businesses, who have allocated a realistic budget for accounting work; because they know a great accountant will help their business thrive, grow in staff numbers and of course increase profits – and that’s something to invest in.

The relationship with your accountant works best if you can be an active partner and provide up to date information in a timely manner and accept the advice given.

What will you get in return?

The best accounting advice for your business to move forward. Not a one size fits all approach. We are experts in complex accounting and our fees reflect this.

We have vast experience, across many sectors; meaning our clients benefit from extensive knowledge and know how. If you’re unsure if we can help you in your particular sector, just ask and we’ll provide relevant case studies of businesses we’ve helped previously.

We strive to provide the utmost in customer service, whilst maintaining realistic expectations – accounting is a serious business; and certain standards and ethics need to be met.

Want to know more?

Please email info@caas.org.uk with your details, outlining what accountancy services you require. We’ll get straight back to you with an appointment to discuss in depth.

Let’s make 2025 the year your business thrives and is noticed.

We’re Accepting New Clients!

With the close of another self assessment deadline, we are happy to announce that we can take on some new clients for 2025.

If you’re a business who is looking to grow and increase your profit this year, then we are your accountant.

For the last few years we have been working with a small telecomms business in England, and were instrumental in them increasing their turnover from £780,000 to over £16 million. This contract has now ceased and we’re looking to work with a similar company (or companies) in 2025.

We have taken on this type of consultancy work since 2014, working with similar businesses who needed an accountant with expert technical knowledge and real world experience, to allow them to increase their profits and eventually grow their own finance team. We then bow out and move on to the next business.

If you’d like to explore what we can do for your business on a consultancy basis, please do get in touch via info@caas.org.uk, outlining what help you need to move forward. We’ll then be in touch to offer you an appointment to discuss your requirements in depth.

Self Assessment Deadline Looms

Are you still searching for an accountant to prepare and submit your 2023/2024 tax return?

Look no further! We’d be delighted to help – the sooner you get in touch, the less you’ll pay.

For those leaving it right to the wire, our fees increase as we need to pull out all the stops to ensure you meet the deadline – working overtime and in to the wee small hours!

The best gift you could yourself this festive season? The warm glow of knowing your tax affairs are in order.

Email info@caas.org.uk to arrange an appointment.

Fun Fact Friday – Wonka Madness!

Fun Fact Friday, is all about #willywonka IYKYK!

1. The author of the book, Roald Dahl was not a fan of the movie adaptation

2. The chocolate river wasn’t as magical as it appeared. Using real cream which spoiled, left it whiffy by the end of shooting

3. Some scenes/locations were kept under wraps from the cast, to catch their true reactions

4. Parts of the set were really edible

5. Gene Wilder, who played the best Willy Wonka was not a fan of the 2005 movie

Don’t guess your numbers using pure imagination. Employ the best of accountants (us!) for the sweetest experience.

We’re taking on a limited number of new clients, in particular limited companies who would like to grow in 2024 and beyond.
