Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank

We are delighted to once again help out the Renfrewshire Christmas Toy Bank by being an official drop off point.

If you give their Facebook page a ‘like’, you can see which items have been requested by children across Renfrewshire.

Waking up to a gift on Christmas day would mean the world for these children, who may otherwise go without.

The toy bank also accepts money or gift vouchers for older children and teenagers.

Last year with our help and the overwhelming generosity of our clients, we managed to collect 6 black bin bags full of new toys. We’re excited to see what we achieve this year!

Ask the Accountant!

Q. What is the profit and loss account?

A. The profit and loss account; also known as the P&L or the income statement.

Essentially, it’s an account in the books of an organisation, where incomes and gains are credited, and expenses and losses debited; so as to show the net profit or loss over a given period, normally a quarter or a year.

In short, it’s a financial statement showing a company’s net profit or loss in a given period.

Of course, we always need to caveat that it isn’t as simple as explained above. It’s why we do, what we do!

Q. What is the balance sheet?

A. The balance sheet can be viewed as a financial statement that reports a company’s assets, liabilities and shareholders’ equity at a specified period.

It is a financial statement that provides a snapshot of what a company owns and owes, as well as the amount invested by shareholders.

The formula to use when calculating the balance sheet is:

Assets = Liabilities + Shareholders’ Equity

Of course, it is more in-depth than the above, which is why it takes a number of years to become a qualified accountant; but we believe things make more sense when you begin to understand what they are or why they require to be done!

Fun Fact Friday

Fun Fact Friday is all about advertising, a nod to the awesome job done for us by SignArt in Linwood.

1. Worldwide, more than $500 billion a year is spent on advertising

2. In 1900, the standard billboard was created in America

3. Numerous researchers argue that advertising is the most powerful art form

4. When advertising timepieces such as watches or clocks, the dials are set to 10.10, to allow the face to be seen properly

5. Food advertising uses food stylists to style the food and show it at its best. That’s why you’ll never get a food product that looks the way it does in the advert!

Keep your eyes peeled for our new signage on our wee white EV. We’ll be the ones driving responsibly; always 🙂

Have a great weekend!

As always we’re contactable on 0141 816 9750 or info@caas.org.uk, to discuss your accountancy requirements.

Feeling rested

What a fab break!

We’re back and buzzing for the weeks ahead.

Do you like being super organised? Why not feel euphoric by submitting your tax return well before the deadline of January 31st 2020?*

Chat to us on 0141 889 1161 or info@caas.org.uk to discuss further.

*Claims of euphoria may be exaggerated. We accept no responsibility if euphoria not achieved.

CLIENT SHOWCASE KLAXON!

The Include Me 2 Club was established in 2010, by Ashley and Paul McIlvenny; after lots of research with key members from the community.

Ashley has a wealth of experience in social care, while Paul has experience of working in Community/Sports Development and Youth Work. As a team, they were unstoppable in their mission to provide an inclusive and relevant social club for people with disabilities.

The first night in November 2010 attracted around 40 people, increasing to 100-120 each week within the 9-12 months period. The Club has continued to grow, with an average of 150 members attending weekly.

Alongside the weekly social club, there have been special events, fundraisers, trips and outings along the way.

The hard work of the founders, volunteers and members of IM2C haven’t gone unnoticed, the club was recently awarded the group MBE of ‘The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’. A fantastic achievement, we’re sure you’ll agree?

Fun Fact Friday

In this complicated world, with newfangled technology; we honour one of our most basic, yet essential tools in this week’s Fun Fact Friday!

The pen.

1. The average pen can write approximately 45,000 words

2. Hungarian journalist Laszio Biro invented the ballpoint pen

3. The first patent for the biro pen belonged to John Loud in 1888

4. Ballpoint pens work whereby a small rotating ball made of brass, tungsten carbide or steel disperses ink from the pressure when you write

5. In 1963 the ‘Hi-Liter’, the water-based marker that emitted an eye-catching translucent ink; was developed in Massachusetts by Carter’s Ink (also an important tool for accountants!)

6. A ‘Space Pen’ uses pressurised ink cartridges meaning that it can write underwater, in varying temperatures, at zero gravity and on wet and greasy paper (we could use one of these with some of the receipts that are handed in…)

There you have it, the humble, but essential, pen.

For an accountant that’s as hard-working as the pen, you needn’t visit outer space!

Get in touch today and take advantage of an accountant that offers pay monthly packages for everyone.

Ask the Accountant

A nice, easy question on this week’s Ask the Accountant.

Q. What is accounts payable?

A. It’s an accounting term that means a company’s obligation to pay off its short term debts to suppliers and/or creditors.

In very basic terms, it’s what your business owes out within a specified period.

You may hear the term ‘accounts payable’ also used to refer to a department within a business. This is the team that takes care of making payments owed by the business to its creditors and suppliers.
